Bio

To her amazement, Elisa Turner has been called “Miami’s art critic.” She’s getting used to the idea and having a blast with her blog.  Additionally, she’s the Miami correspondent for award-winning magazine ARTnews and columnist for Art Circuits, Miami’s excellent print and online guide to the visual arts.  Since her byline has been “disappeared” from The Miami Herald, this award-winning journalist isn’t shutting up in cyberspace.

She’s very proud and grateful to remember her many years with the Knight Ridder-owned Miami Herald as well as her fab international assignments for the paper: two trips to the Venice Biennial, one to Art Basel in Switzerland, also trips to cover art scenes in Havana and Haiti.  Favorite artists? WAY too many to mention, though she is quite partial to J. Tomas Lopez, who photographed her in the portrait for her ArtCritComment blog.

Favorite cocktails? White Russian and Chocolate Martini. Personal details?  Over 30 years ago she married her bilingual born-in-Miami college sweetheart.  They raised two remarkable young adults.  At Miami Dade College, she proudly teaches subject-verb agreement and other essentials for writing well because everyone needs to make subjects and verbs agree!

Who is Elisa Turner?

She deeply believes in the power of the arts to change people and shape communities and is utilizing her years of experience as one of Miami’s finest journalists to continue an informed and insightful dialogue regarding our dynamic visual arts scene through the interactive medium of blogging.
